hugergames_200.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Seven seconds of footage from Hunger Games has been cut from the UK version of the film in order to achieve a PG-13 rating.

The movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson, was originally slated to receive a 15 certificate, which is the equivalent of an R rating, so four scenes of violence and injuries were cut out. After Lionsgate made the adjustments, it was rated 12A, which signifies 12-year-olds rather than 13-year-olds can go see it without supervision.

The rating will open the film up to a much larger movie-going public upon its release on March 23.

The consumer advice tag states: "Contains intense threat, moderate violence and occasional gory moments."

Hunger Games is based on the novel by Suzanne Collins - the first in a trilogy - centered on a group of teens struggling to survive a televised game show where only one can live in a post-apocalyptic society. It is directed by Gary Ross.
