Drew Barrymore covers the new issue of Marie Claire, and while she gushes about life as a mom, the interview takes a sober turn with the 38-year-old actress discusses her estrangement from her mother Jaid.

"Ugh, I mean, my relationship with my mom is so complicated," she tells the mag. "I've always been empathetic toward my mom, and I was even more so when I had a kid and we had a really amazing conversation about it. However, [becoming a mom] hasn't enabled me to lessen the distance. It's the hardest subject in my life. I've never just been angry with her. I've always felt guilt and empathy and utter sensitivity. But we can’t really be in each other's lives at this point."

"When I was a kid, everything was so unplanned, my parents were so erratic, and my world was so inconsistent," she continued. "I was 14 when I moved into my own apartment. I was so scared. I didn’t know anything. I didn’t know you had to throw food out when it rotted in the fridge. I was convinced someone was going to crawl through my window. I would go to the Laundromat and sit there reading Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath."

The former child star famously entered rehab at the age of 14, after which she successfully petitioned for juvenile emancipation from her parents. "I hated growing up alone. I hated it. I don't f*ck anyone over. My friends are the loves my life."

On a lighter note, Drew says she's thankful for the joy hubby Will Kopelman has brought into her life, and when asked about marrying into his family, she says, “I didn’t think I would ever get to experience that. This is so safe and positive and healthy because they have their values intact. It was huge for me. And that’s what I want for my family.”

So will the couple stop after two kids? “I think I’d like to have more," Drew says. "In the back of my head, I’m already timing if I was to have another when that would occur.”

Despite recent troubles, Alex Rodriguez kept his head up when he arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday after spending his New Year's in St. Barth.

2013 was quite the trying time for A-Rod. On August 5, Major League Baseball came down heavily on the sports star, suspending him through the 2014 baseball season. Rodriguez's 211-game ban was a result of a doping scandal surrounding the South Florida anti-aging clinic Biogenesis. Twelve other players, including All-Stars : Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres and Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers, were suspended others for 50 games -- but the MLB's heavy baseball bat came down harshest on the Yankee.

"Obviously, I'm disappointed with the news today," Rodriguez said at a news conference at the time. "What we've always fought for is the process and I think we have that, and I think at some point we'll sit in front of an arbiter and we'll give our case. That's as much as I feel comfortable saying right now."

The 38-year-old called the seven months prior to the MLB's decision a "nightmare." The sports star added, "Probably the worst time of my life for sure. Obviously, for the circumstances that are at hand, and dealing with a tough surgery and a rehab program and being 38."

Eva Longoria has been named Maxim's woman of the year, and the 38-year-old actress told the mag, "It's especially awesome after how long it's been since my first cover. I've had a beautiful relationship with Maxim over all these years … When someone sees the cover of this issue, they're going to say, '¡Que rico!' … Say it when something is really good."

Sounds like it's really good! As far as we know, Eva isn't dating anyone, but it sounds like she could be ready to settle back down again. "One thing people are usually surprised about when they get to know me is how domestic I am," she tells the mag. "So when you see the sexy Maxim cover and then you put it against me in an apron with flour in my hair, it takes a moment to reconcile that image."

The former Desperate Housewives star recently received her master's degree in Chicano Studies from Cal State Northridge, and she reveals that she's always worn several hats. "Back in high school I really was the chameleon, too," she says. "I got along with the honors math club, then I would go to cheerleading practice, and then I was a band geek as well."

Scott Disick's father Jeffrey Disick passed away on January 2, a mere two months after the death of the reality star's mother Bonnie, Us Weekly confirms. No other details were immediately available.

Kourtney Kardashian's boyfriend was the couple's only child.

The 30-year-old is father to children Mason, 4, and Penelope, 1. Good thing he has his new family to lean on during this difficult time!

He has yet to publicly comment on the tragedy.

Emily Blunt and her pooch hit L.A.'s Runyon Canyon on Sunday for a hike, and the 30-year-old actress showed off her 7-month baby bump in a form-fitting longsleeve tee.

Last month Emily and John had a baby shower at their Hollywood home, and guests included Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Amy Adams and Kristen Bell.

“It was a very casual shower,” a source told People. “Emily seems very excited about the baby and looks great. She opened gifts of baby clothes and plush toys in front of her guests as they enjoyed cookies and chocolate. Everyone was oohing and ahhing.”
