Producer Brett Ratner stepped down from the awards show on Tuesday, and on Wednesday it was announced that Eddie Murphy will no longer be hosting.
Ratner, Murphy's director in
Tower Heist, had brought Murphy on as host. Odds are Murphy did not feel comfortable doing the awards show -- often a gamble for actors' careers (remember James Franco and Anne Hathaway's debacle from last year?), without Ratner by his side.
“I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well,†said Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak.
A release from Murphy said:
"First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job."

George Clooney chats with the latest issue of
Rolling Stone, and the 50-year-old actor reveals all sorts of interesting details about his personal life.
Clooney says he lost his virginity at the age of 16 ("young, very young, too young"), and he had his first orgasm when he was much younger. "I believe it was while climbing a rope when I was six or seven years old," he says. "I mean, nothing came out, but all the other elements were there. I remember getting to the top of the rope, hanging off the rope, and going, "Oh, my God, this feels great!"
On a more serious note,
Clooney admits he briefly considered suicide after a spinal injury that occurred while he was filming
Syriana in 2004. Clooney says he was in excruciating pain and drank a lot during that period to "anesthesize himself."
When asked if he has a girlfriend right now Clooney replies, “I might have a girlfriend, but I’m never going to talk about it. I get one thing to keep to myself.†However, the reporter does ask about Clooney's lady love Stacy Keibler's cryptic tweets (“I’m in heaven,†for example), to which he responds, “She can do whatever she wants. I rarely tell anybody what they should be doing with their life.â€
Finally, the
Ides of March star reveals that the simplest things make him laugh. "[My friends and I] think [farts are] one of the funniest things in the history of mankind. Even the idea of a fart makes me laugh. Saying the word 'fart' makes me laugh. I have iFart on my phone. I have remote whoopee cushions. Farts. To me, there's nothing funnier." Hmm, has he ever hung with Jessica Simpson?

The bed that Michael Jackson passed away in is for sale.
The queen-size piece, shown several times to the court in photos throughout Dr. Conrad Murray's involuntary manslaughter trial, and hundreds more items from Jackson's Holmby Hills mansion are scheduled to go up for auction next month.
Items include furniture, paintings and sculptures. Jackson and his three children lived at the North Carolwood Drive home from December 2008 until his June 25, 2009, death. The three-story home is up for sale separately (Jackson was leasing it.)
A note from one of the children remains on a chalkboard from inside the home. Sadly, it reads,
"I (heart) Daddy. SMILE, it's for free." The board will be sold as-is, and is expected to fetch more than $400.
The bedroom that was shown in court was considered somewhat of a medication room by Jackson and his team, he kept a more private bedroom adjacent to that one. There, a message is written on the mirror -- from MJ to himself: "TRAIN, perfection, March April. FULL OUT May."

He had hinted at it, but now he's gone and said it outright.
David Arquette, 40, told Howard Stern on Tuesday that, no matter what, he would not reconcile with estranged wife Courteney Cox, 47 (they have yet to file for divorce, though they separated more than a year ago.)
Stern asked Arquette, "If Courteney said to you, 'David, I made a mistake I want to work on our marriage. I want you moving back into the house, I want you to break up with that girl. I know we have to do this for our daughter.' Would you consider it?"
Arquette's reply?
"Uh, I mean, no."
The former
Dancing With The Stars contestant is now dating
Entertainment Tonight reporter Christina McLarty.
Arquette and Cox were married for 11 years. Arquette told Stern that he's in love with McLarty, and when he told Cox, it was an emotional moment. "She was sad, we were both sad," he said. "We both cried."
