While on GMA, the actress explains what attracted her to the intense role:

”My mother was a psych nurse in the VA hospital for 35 years, so I grew up having a certain compassion for people who suffer in that way. So when I heard about the story, I thought, ‘Here’s a chance to add some light in a really dark place’.”

alexapiclogo230.jpgOne year has passed since Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, attempted suicide at her West Village apartment in New York.

Now speaking out on the incident, the 24-year-old tells the NY Post, "I have a flair for the dramatic."

The singer, who tried to kill herself by swallowing a handful of sleeping pills after reportedly breaking up with her boyfriend of five years, rock musician Jimmy Riot, says:

"I got caught up in my own head. It was a panic. I didn't want to die. I just didn't want to feel what I was feeling at that moment any more."

Joel, now living in NY's Nolita neighborhood, adds:

"My West Village apartment never felt like my home. It was lonely. I was out of a relationship, and I was struggling with it. It was too big for me. This feels like home."

As for how she's feeling now, she says, "I'm starting to grow a thicker skin and grow into myself, and you learn to accept your quirks and your appearance."

Sounds like she's on the right track!

Posted on Mon Dec 6th, 2010 9:32am PDT       By X17 Staff

usherdeaddig.jpg After writing on November 30th, "I'm digitally dying tonite for WORLD AIDS DAY, this is my last tweet & testament", Usher resume his tweeting over the weekend, a little sooner than he was supposed to!

Other celebs (including Ryan Seacrest, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian) went digitally dead for the week to raise money for Keep A Child Alive's "Buy Life" initiative, but the organization has only raised $300,000 of their $1 million goal.

Looks like Usher needs to crawl back into that coffin and ditch the BlackBerry!

Is someone taking Eurotrash-tastic fashion cues from Brad Pitt?!

Yesterday we snapped Justin Bieber in London, and we're not sure if his eyebrows have gotten thicker or if he's going through a growth spurt, but the head to toe leather definitely helps with his more mature look. Er, right?

Bristol Palin Slams Margaret Cho With Gay Joke

Posted on Mon Dec 6th, 2010 8:29am PDT       By X17 Staff

bristolcho460WM.jpg

Bristol Palin is going on the defensive via her Facebook account once again ... this time aiming her anger at fellow Dancing With The Stars castmate, Margaret Cho.

The comedian had written on her blog the following:

"Sarah supposedly blames Bristol harshly and openly…for not winning the election, and so she told Bristol she 'owed' it to her to do DWTS so that 'America would fall in love with her again' and make it possible for Sarah Palin to run in 2012…"

Bristol's response wouldn't have been so bad ... except the last line of her Facebook post throws in a gay-related jab. Palin writes:

"I will give my friend credit for creativity, and extra points for getting so many 'facts' wrong in so few sentences. Let me be blunt: my mom did not 'force' me to go on DWTS. She did not ask me either. The show approached me…

Anyone who watched the show could tell I performed better, and I felt better about myself, when they were in the audience. I wanted to make them both proud, but politics had nothing to do with it. Loving my parents had everything to do with it….

You say you 'don't agree with the family's politics at all' but I say, if you understood that commonsense conservative values supports the right of individuals like you, like all of us, to live our lives with less government interference and more independence, you would embrace us faster than KD Lang at an Indigo Girls concert."

Not sure if Facebook is the best place for you to post your frustration, Bristol.
