Looks like Madonna has truly given up on her planned adoption, as she has flown back to England and is said to be "devastated" reports the Daily Mail.

The 50-year-old singer already has one adopted child from Malawi - young David Banda, pictured above - but was hoping to return home with Mercy, who greeted her as "Mummy" when they met last week.

Apparently M is taking this pretty bad. A friend reveals that she's "in absolute pieces. This is the first time she has not got something she longed for. Lourdes will also be devastated. She helped get a room ready for Mercy and chose clothes for her."

And despite their divorce and such, the friend adds that "Guy has been pretty supportive of Madonna" despite the fact that he wasn't too enthusiastic about her adopting another kid in the first place.

Was this ruling fair? No matter what you think about M, it's hard to argue with someone who has the means and ability (and desire) to take on raising another child!

So after getting banned from Charlotte Ronson's party AND getting locked out from Sam's house (for good), the drama continued last night...

Samantha was at Teddy's and, therefore, "Lindsay was, too - looking for Sam." Our inside source says that LiLo stayed around with a male companion 'til 2:20 in the morning. Lindsay then ventured to the Chateau Marmont to visit her mom... at 2:30 am? WTF! And later (at around 3:20 am) went out for some Mickey D's.

Are she and Sam dunzo 4-eva? Our source confirms the following:

"I'm sure Lindsay and Sam are over. Sam's family wants her to get away from Lindsay - they think she's completely nuts!"
