Stars Support Striking Scribes

writersstrikeuniversal.jpgIn their second week of picketing, the writers pulled out the big guns Tuesday in front of Universal -- namely, big name tv and film actors who walked the picket lines in a show of solidarity with the people who create the characters they play. Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman, Nicolette Sheridan and Dana Delaney (where were Teri and Eva?) joined Ben Stiller, Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman and Mary Lynn Rajskub (and more!) joined over 2,000 writers who are standing up to the big media conglomerates who are making bazillions off their work on DVDs and Internet downloads. The AMPTP has yet to return to the bargaining table, so there's no word on whether or not your favorite shows will be running out of episodes (or in the case of 24, even starting up) soon.

What do you think of the strike?

I'm thrilled they went on strike. I can only wish they all get fired and they hire some real talent to take their places. Television has gone to the dogs. The writing is horrible on most shows. Movies, the same. Nothing entertaining or smart to watch in the last several years. I won't miss them.

Im really trying hard to feel sympathy for people who live in million dollar homes while there are people in this country who go without food on their table.

Oh well. Who cares really?

Posted by: Anonymous

Yeah I'm climbing over people every day on the streets. They're all over the side walks begging for money, on the subways begging for a meal. I've only got but so much for myself to get around to work and back and, their talking about more money? If they only knew how the rest of us live.

its pretty sad that those greedy ass actors actaully stand their in support, take a pay cut yourself and hand over annuitites to the writes.

It's the Teachers in this country who need to go on strike. Who cares about the terrible hollywood writers who are a bad influence to young america.

Sheesh, people, you don't get it. Writers writer crap because that's all the giant corporations who own all media BUY. These are the same corporations who are telling writers they are not making money off the internet, while crowing to their shareholders about how much money they're making off the internet.

Oh, and the vast majority of members of the WGA are middle-class stiffs like you and me. Example: in order to qualify for the WGA health insurance benefit, you have to have earned $30,000 the previous year through writing. Last year 6,000 members, fully HALF the members of the WGA DIDN'T QUALIFY.

Hollywood is a cest pool. They get what they got coming.

GET BACK TO WORK ASSOS

I don't feel sorry for ANYONE who strikes. Bunch of whiney babies. If you don't like what you're getting paid, then get a different job! Don't throw a tantrum like a 2 year old until you get your way. I hate strikes.

Posted by: bb

I hope you all loose your jobs! Your going from PICKET LINES to UNEMPLOYMENT LINES! HaHahHaHaHaHaHaHa

Next time I drive by in my MERCEDES, I will HONK for suport! not!

It's ironic that shows like Jay Leno are being affected by this strike. People give too much credit to the ones delivering the jokes and forget that those people really aren't funny, they're just good at delivering jokes. Will Farell, Ben Stiller, all the same, they're NOT FUNNY! They just regurgitate the crap that the writers give them. What a farce. Makes you realize how tricked America is into thinking these people are actually comedians.

Have all these people Jay, Ben etc. Give the writers money from they're pay checks.
Cut their freakin pay check in half. They're just the pupets?

Posted by: Anonymous

I agree, if it's the writers that do the real work as to what they say and what's funny then the actors should give half their paycheck to the writers. Greedy ass people.

did Ellen & her puppy show up on the picket line ?

...sorry couldn't resist

WGA has valid concerns going forward, unfortunately the big corp.s that now own the studio's and networks will just sweat them out in the end... hope y'all like reruns and reality shows cuz it's gonna be a really long strike. They need the governator to 'mediate' a fair settlement...

Writers are the REAL talent behind a successful show. I'm glad they're on strike, why shouldn't they get some of the take? Damn studios, always hoggin' the dough.

I don't even watch TV except for old Seinfeld reruns, Raymond reruns, and Friends reruns. I watch Brothers and Sisters online. Love that show, I will miss it.

I saw Ray Ramano dropping off donuts to the writers on the picket line! what a fucking joke! for all the shit they did for his show, he should be buying them a donut shop!

the writer's strike is just another photo op for the celebs. Why don't they take a cut in salary so the little people can afford bread?

Just because the writers make more than the average US citizen is no reason that the networks should give them only a teensy slice of the pie. I don't remember how long it's been since the writers striked -- I think I was a kid, so didn't care too much -- but IIRC, it took an entire season to resolve it.

Ellen Degeneres became a scab supposedly because she 'felt her audience wanted to see her so much' (paraphrasing based on memory, so could be very wrong). Well, I wonder how many of her audience belong to unions, or have family members in them.

Just because a union is not closely affiliated does not mean they are not supported by that union. I wish the writers well, and am pleased to see the actors walking with the writers.

sarah silverman is a big pice of shit enjoy the reruns...yeah im sure she will enjoy it cus she still gets paid for reruns.

i love how these actors are using this strike as a perfect opportunity for a photo-op. i hate hollywood. o how times are changing.

People could give a rats ass about the strike. Last time it went on for 6 months and see?? Not a damn thing was learned and nothing changed. If you don't want to be screwed up the ass.. don't choose this job. If you do quit complaining.

I SUPPORTED the writers by buying an extra burger at the Burger King and then giving it to a homeless guy.

They went on strike???? You mean no more trashy TV?? Oh, the horror. By the way, liberals are the funniest when they try to mingle with the little people. These actors are nothing but puppets on a string. Otherwise, they are useless.

Let's not forget that the writers are STILL getting paid during their strike. They will be making residuals on the reruns that are about to fill the prime time slots. I however do not have that luxury and will be laid off without pay because of their strike.

"If only Bill O' Reilly's writers would go on strike."

"Bill O'Reilly has writers?"

"Sorry. I meant to say, 'If only Bill O' Reilly would learn to write."

Sadly, O'Reilly's no more likely to learn to write well than most people here are likely to think about a strike intelligently. Striking workers are the only reason most of us have retirement plans, medical coverage, 401ks and (in rare cases) pensions.
