Why is Allie so good for Britney when she did nothing about the drugs and mental breakdowns. She even did an interview with a tabloid saying how great and healthy Britney is right before or just after her breakdown. Since her father has taken control, Britney has been stable. 8 U.S. Soldiers Killed in 2 Iraq Attacks

BAGHDAD — A man walked up to a group of American soldiers on foot patrol in an upscale shopping district in central Baghdad on Monday and detonated the explosives-filled vest he was wearing, killing five soldiers and wounding three others and an Iraqi interpreter who accompanied them.

JACKSON, Miss. — Turnout is expected to be light to moderate Tuesday in Mississippi's primary election, but state officials predict the race between Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama will draw more voters to the polls than the last presidential primary.
Between 125,000 to 150,000 voters will cast ballots, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann predicted. He said 100,000 headed to the polls in the 2004 presidential primary that featured eight contenders for the Democratic nomination, including ultimate nominee Sen. John Kerry. Mississippi has 1.78 million registered voters.

The two senators, Obama from Illinois and Clinton from New York, have visited the state in recent days. Sen. John McCain of Arizona clinched the GOP nomination in last week's primaries.

Mississippi does not require voters to declare party affiliation when they register to vote. Therefore, residents who usually vote Republican can cast a ballot today for Obama or Clinton. But those voters would have to forgo voting in the Republican congressional primaries, also being held Tuesday.

There are 33 delegates at stake in Mississippi.

(CBS) Researchers have found that women who've taken the breast cancer drug Tamoxifen can benefit by following it up with another drug, Femara -- even if they start that second drug years later.

It had been thought for a long time that Femara is only useful when begun almost immediately after the patient stops using another Tamoxifen. But this research shows that even women who didn't start Femara right away can still benefit from starting it, even years later.

On The Early Show Tuesday, medical contributor Dr. Sean Kenniff called it
great news.

Tamoxifen, he says, is a lifesaver. It reduces breast cancer recurrence by shielding breast cells from the harmful effects of the hormone estrogen. But since benefits are often more limited after five years, and the risk of some negative side effects tends to increase at that point, patients are commonly taken off Tamoxifen.

Then, they might be switched to another class of breast cancer drugs called aromatase inhibitors, which work by decreasing the body's actual production of estrogen.

This study, which appears in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, looked at one particular aromatase inhibitor called Femara, also known as Letrozole.

Until now, Kenniff explained, we thought it had to be given within three months of stopping Tamoxifen. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration approved it only for within that three-month window.

This study found that women who waited much longer to start Femara, even up to seven years, still benefited greatly from taking it.

The three month, he says, is somewhat arbitrary. It happens to have been the timeframe chosen by the researchers for the original studies on Femara. They thought, at the time, that using it soon after Tamoxifen would provide the biggest one-two punch against any remaining cancer cells.

But cancer cells now appear to have the potential to lie dormant longer than previously thought, and this study suggests it's never too late to start therapies like Femara as a preventive measure.

As for specifics from the study:

Women who began Femara beyond that three-month window cut the risk of breast cancer recurrence by almost 60 percent, from nearly 5 percent to 2 percent. The risk of DEATH from breast cancer was cut in half. The spread of cancer -- called metastasis -- was reduced by 61 percent. And new cancer in the other breast was reduced by 82 percent. So, it appears the drug still had a substantial benefit, even when it was started long after Tamoxifen was stopped.

Doctors aren't sure if this study applied only to Femara, Kenniff says. There are other drugs in the aromatase inhibitor family, such as Aromasin and Arimidex. It's possible they all provide similar protection for women with breast cancer. But Femara was the only drug studied here, so we don't know that similar conclusions can be drawn about the other drugs.

The study doesn't apply to all women with breast cancer, Kenniff stressed. Women in the study were post-menopausal. They all had early-stage breast cancer. And their tumors were all hormone-receptor positive. That's a large portion of women with breast cancer, but still not everyone. Plus, this wasn't a randomized, double-blind study. The patients actually chose their treatment. That could result in some statistical inaccuracy.

But overall, this is still very promising, Kenniff says, and well-worth discussing with your doctor if you're a breast cancer survivor.

AP Water Probe Prompts Senate Hearings

Two veteran U.S. senators said they plan to hold hearings in response to an Associated Press investigation into the presence of trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans.

Also, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-Pa., has asked the EPA to establish a national task force to investigate the issue and make recommendations to Congress on any legislative actions needed.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, who heads the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, and Sen. Frank Lautenberg, chairman of the Transportation, Safety, Infrastructure Security and Water Quality Subcommittee, said Monday the oversight hearings would likely be held in April.

Boxer, D-Calif., said she was "alarmed at the news" that pharmaceuticals are turning up in the nation's drinking water, while Lautenberg, a New Jersey Democrat who said he was "deeply concerned" by the AP findings, both represent states where pharmaceuticals had been detected in drinking water supplies, but not disclosed to the public.

"I call on the EPA to take whatever steps are necessary to keep our communities safe," said Boxer in a statement.

Added Lautenberg, whose subcommittee has jurisdiction over drinking water issues: "Our families deserve water that is clean and safe. Our hearing will examine these problems and help ensure the EPA and Congress take the steps necessary to protect our residents and clean up our water supply."

EPA spokesman Timothy Lyons said the agency is "committed to keeping the nation's water supply clean, safe and the best in the world. We encourage all Americans to be responsible when disposing of prescription drugs."

The Lautenberg-Boxer announcement came just 24 hours after the AP's release of the first installment of its three-part series, titled PharmaWater.

The five-month-long inquiry by the AP National Investigative Team found that while water is screened for drugs by some suppliers, they usually don't tell their customers that they have found medication in it, including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones.

The series shows how drugs — mostly the residue of medications taken by people, excreted and flushed down the toilet — have gotten into the water supplies of at least 24 major metropolitan areas, from Southern California to northern New Jersey. The stories also detail the growing concerns among scientists that this pollution has adversely affected wildlife, and may threaten human health.

In a letter to EPA administrator Stephen Johnson, Schwartz said, "Like many Pennsylvanians, I was especially taken aback by the finding of 56 different pharmaceuticals discovered in the drinking water for the City of Philadelphia.. . . The Associated Press report raises serious questions about the safety and security of America's water system."

This has been going on for a LONG time which is why they tell people not to flush pills but even then the chemicals can't be broken down even by the human body as it passes as waste. I started drinking Distilled water about 2 years ago because of this. I do on occasion drink spring or artesian water but I will NEVER drink tap water no matter how filtered it is. I dont' even give it to my pets.
