I will tell you only what I know as fact, and don't ask how I know. She had three drugs in her system, prozac, adderall, and methamphetamine. She was diagnosed as bipolar in February of last year. The combination of these drugs is a violent mix. You lose all sense of reason and become out of touch with reality. She was screaming she would take her own life and those of her kids, because she felt she was protecting them. The whole scene looked like something out of an action movie. The threat was real and the authorities were terrified. The choppers were from the LAPD. The area was sealed off in case she tried to flee with the baby. It was described as a life or death situation.

It has been known for years that the inherited gene( I seriously thing LYNNE is crazy too but on meds) and environment play a factor in a disorder. There can be Two identical twins and one will be mentally ill and not the other. Environment is a crucial part .

Troubled Britney Spears reportedly made a series of terrifying calls to a close friend in which she threatened: “I’ll kill myself before I let them lock me up again!”
Britney is said to have made the alarming calls while driving erratically on Tuesday night - the day before she fled the country to hide in Mexico.
And it was also the day reports flooded the internet about how Britney’s parents were considering drastic action to get Britney taken into psychiatric care - even using courts and police if needs be.
“They’re not sending me to the nut house!” Britney screamed to her friend, according to a report in the U.S. “No one can make me go if I don’t want to go - and I ain’t goin’!”
Britney is said to have made the call to “a close friend” while being chased by paparazzi - with her driving getting increasingly erratic and dangerous. “See that? I just went through another stop sign!” Britney shrieked. “See what you made me do? I’m gonna hurt someone out here!”
While the friend was trying to reason with her, Britney then made the chilling promise: “I’ll kill myself before I let them lock me up again! So tell Mama and Daddy I said so!”
Just before she hung up, she uttered a final few words. “Oh, my God,” she moaned, “it’s over for me.”
The chilling words were repeated to biographer J Randy Taraborrelli, who says he has “known and liked Britney for almost a decade,” He told the New York Post: “I find what she had to say utterly chilling.

I agree that drugs/alcohol are a problem, but I think the bigger problem is that although she's 26, mentally she's probably more like 16.
She's a diva who reached the top and is having problems sliding back down. She was one of the biggest pop stars and now she is THE BIGGEST celebrity mess.

Yes, early childhood development is extremely important, and yes, abuse and neglect can leave unseen scars. However, having stated that, it is not true that abuse and neglect brings on mental illness or that the mentally ill had abusive parents. Mental illnesses such as depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenias, etc tend to have biological/genetic basis. Abuse and neglect may play a part in personality disorders, but a lot of the general public have personality disorders, and they function quite well.
To the second item I wanted to address, Liver's question about politics. My first love is politics. This is a distraction for me. This has no impact on my life. But politics, boy am I passionate, because it does effect my life and the lives of my children. Its nice to know there is someone else out there too.
