i guess some people don't understand that the economy took a hit because of the two wars(afghanistan and iraq). that's what's responsible for gas being so high. the president has veto power over congress so he can continue to spend as much as he wants and nobody can do anything about it so long as there is a 49-49 republican/democratic congress with one independent(lieberman who has been for the war). you need the majority of congress to do away with a president's veto and congress does not have that. so the president is free to destroy this country as much as he wants until obama takes office on january 20, 2009.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain, ridiculing Barack Obama for "the audacity of hopelessness" in his policies on Iraq, said Friday that the entire Middle East could have plunged into war had U.S. troops been withdrawn as his rival advocated.

Republican McCain contended that Obama's policies - he opposed sending more troops to Iraq in the "surge" that McCain supported - would have led to defeat there and in Afghanistan.
