What Can Britney Expect Over The Next Few Days?

britneypsychwards.jpg
X17online spoke to a former UCLA psych ward resident, who's painted a grim picture of what Britney Spears will be going through at the medical center over the next few days.

According to the source:

  • Britney will be held for at least 72 hours, and up to 14 days if the LA County officer deems her a danger to herself and others.
  • Britney will be supervised around the clock by nurses and security, unable to even bathe by herself.
  • Over the first few days, Britney will be encouraged to sleep as much as possible, and will be administered sleeping pills, as well as Ativan (an anti-anxiety medication) to help her do so. Meds are doled out three times a day.
  • Visitors are allowed to come one hour a day during the week, between 6:30 and 7:30, but on the weekends the stay is extended from 1-3. Visitors are allowed to bring food (although our source says UCLA's food is pretty decent!) but they cannot keep it or any other contraband (sharp objects, razors, etc.) in their rooms.
  • The psych ward consists of two wings, with 10 rooms each. Although there are 2 beds per room, it's doubtful that Britney is sharing with anyone. None of the rooms have televisions, although there is a tv in the common area.
  • The patients are divided into two categories: addicts and bi-polars, with the highest risk patients restrained by wristbands in their beds.
  • Our source said that most of the patients are from 18-50 years old, with at least half of the residents were considered high risk, and therefore restrained.
  • The ward is an extremely "tough" environment to live in, with patients getting quite agitated and screams being heard all hours of the night. Our source said there were also many fights that broke out in the common area, due to general paranoia, not to mention the fact that many patients are detoxing.
  • After the first few days, Britney will most likely be put on Depakote Seroquel and Lithium for the bi-polar, and Ativan for anti-anxiety.
  • A doctor will pay Britney a visit once a day, asking her questions like "are you able to sleep?" "Are you hearing voices?" "Are you paranoid?" "Do you feel like harming yourself?" "Do you think about committing suicide?"
  • Britney will not be allowed outside during the first 72 hours, after that, she'll be allowed to visit an outdoor court for one hour a day, at 3pm.
  • There are several different groups to keep patients busy throughout the day, including Arts & Crafts, as well as a group called "Journal", where patients are encouraged to read the newspapers to keep up on current events and life on the outside.
  • She's allowed to be in her own clothes, with a green, hospital issue robe worn on top, and nothing else but a wristband that contains her social security number and her date of admittance.
  • It sounds like an extremely tough environment, but probably the best thing for Britney at the moment. Mariah Carey showed drastic improvement after her month-long stay back in 2001!

Poor Britney - hope she gets better soon!

She wont have to follow ANY of that protocol...everyone knows it. It would be the best thing for her, though.

    Posted by: Anonymous

i am praying that she gets the help she needs. I hope her family stick around to. I am also hoping that the media and haters will back off and realise this is a serious condition and not one for which she is made fun of. If you are not a fan of hers all i will say is try to picture a family member or friend suffering like Britney is with some mental illness and think would you laugh or hate on them? I sure hope you would not. Britney is going trough a hard time and needs support from everyone not to be rediculed for being sick.

DON'T BOTHER LISTENING TO THIS PERSON - A psych won't put her on all those meds at once, they have different effects and strengths to test on her. You don't put her SSN on her so that she can have her identity stolen- they know who the hell she is. I doubt they want her in "journal" reading about her breakdowns and her bad parenting. You're a fucking idiot!!! They should've kept your ass.

Watching TV or reading the papers won't be a very good thing for her because she will be splashed all over both for a long time. I doubt she will be treated like a regular patient though and will have privileges unlike the others.

And since when do doctors ask, "Are you paranoid?" I mean ... do paranoid people know they're paranoid?

The meds are right though. That is what is givern for bi polar. I don't know if she will need Ativan with Seroquel though. That stuff kicks your ass

Can anyone see Britney doing arts and crafts? lol.

IF she stays, this will be the best thing for her but I sense she will manage to get out and start all over again.

I'm sure that given her problem is significantly tied to exposure in the media she will be given a different regime that doesn't involve "groups" or "common rooms".

And I sure hope the doc is asking more perceptive questions than "how do you feel" "can you sleep" "do you think about committing suicide". Otherwise things haven't progressed much since the middle ages and bloodletting.

I do hope they can help. While it's encoraging that they were able to succesfully help another "diva" (Mariah) they did NOT have the same issues with custody battles for kids, custody battles for Brit's money, horrible family dynamics, crooked managers, and a patient that thrives on chaos. This is a whole other ballgame honey!!

O.K> X17 it's time to stop disecting her past, present and future. What she needs now is privacy.

    Posted by: Anonymous

Anyone who says ... Britney is going to be given X or Y is full of crap. There are a ton of different meds that are used. The source is making it out to sound much worse than it really is - it's not a picnic but it's not like prison. I haven't heard many cases of being restrained in bed except for extreme psychosis - i.e. trying to actively slash their wrists. She wouldn't have been waiting quietly for the paramedics if she was psychotic. The best thing that can be done is to keep her away from everyone on the outside for 2 weeks. She needs a break from all the people in her life that are ripping her one way or the other.

    Posted by: Anonymous

x17 will never leave her alone as long as they think they can make a buck off of "our girl Britney." I notice that they print other stories now and then, but not many people seem interested in anyone but Britney Spears.

I agree that she needs to get out of LA, with the crazy, stalking photogs, but she's but evil Federline holding her babies hostage, so it's hard for her to leave without appearing to abandon the situation.

Mostly I am appalled at the lack of humanity many of the posters here suffer. One day it might be you. It'll be a shame if people treat you the same way you have treated this young woman.

Now Heath Ledger's cocaine, heroine and marijuana use is in the news today, including a video of his usage at a drug party. However, the media, including the entertainment channels, has decided to cover this up "out of respect for his family." If he didn't respect them enough in life to stay away from drugs, why are they due respect from the media and strangers now?

    Posted by: Anonymous

She does not bathe anyway. So that does not apply to her.

    Posted by: Anonymous

she is a mess, any bets she will leave by Monday!

    Posted by: Anonymous

She may very well get a roommate - part of the treatment is not being treated differently. They do group therapy as well as individual. And I doubt she'll be put on Lithium, Depakote AND Seroquel at the same time - she wouldn't be able to function. Those are all choices for treating mania, but they'll likely start with Lithium first and go from there. There are also many newer drugs these days used to treat bipolar disorder. It won't be a picnic, but she desperately needs it the help.

    Posted by: Anonymous

I agree with the last commenter - uhhh Depakote, Lithium, AND Seroquel? Seriously doubt all three - unless their goal is to turn her into a vegetable or kill her. I've got quite a few bipolars in my family/friend circle and I have never in my life heard of all three being adminstered. Also, if she is truly bipolar, that Adderall would definately have sent her on a tail spin into mania - my cousin did it and went headfirst into hell. Lost custody of her kid, went totally nuts - yep, that'll do it to ya.

    I'm BRITNEY SPEARS BITCH!!!!
Let me see if I undertand some of these rules:
1)No problem with taking a bath I dont take any anyway
2)Reading the news: since I'm the only story lately and I'm locked up whats the point?
3)being let outside for an hour again whats the point no photogs to take my picture and kiss my ass.
4)I get to wear my own clothes! I cant the hospital staff peeled the jeans, and brown boots I have worn for three weeks straight and put them in the red medical bio-hazzard bag and burned them, as for the robe who cares I like to be nude anyway !!!
5)I can go to the common room and the staff can wheel all the paitents out and sedate them while I sing and dance songs from my flop CD "BLACKOUT"
6)I can have visitors: I can pretend to do interviews about my horrible CD "BLACOUT" that I blew off and talk in my British accent and babble incorherenlty.
7)the best part I dont have to go to the hotel to score my drugs they give me all I need here.
BEST OF LUCK BRITNEY HOPE YOUR THERE FOR A LONG TIME.

how about if you actually do some REPORTING for a change? Like, why don't you find out if a 72 hour stay is IRONCLAD or is there a possibility that she can get out earlier, like she did before (I don't know if there was a 5150 order then). Why don't you find out under what criteria the stay can be extended to 14 days?

"like X17 said, Mariah went thru the same thing when her crazy ass was strippin on T.V. and look at her now!! "
    ------------
Yeah, look at her now (see this week's feature on Mariah at a jewelery store):
    - Attention whoring
    - Going into stores with a dressed up little dog
    - Flashing titties
    - Out of control conspicuous consumption

    Sound familiar?

"after that, she'll be allowed to visit an outdoor court for one hour a day"

    Haven't you guys heard -- she's a-scared of court!!!

    Posted by: billy

Hey, Just sayin'. All those things you mentioned Mariah is now doing. Grant you, dressing up a dog in clothes is insane, but all the other things you mentioned are clearly normal and applauded behavior.

    Posted by: Tri-Babe

They must mean Depakote, Seroquel, OR Lithium. Not all 3, certainly. If one doesn't seem to be working down the road, they would try to switch her to one of the other mood disorder drugs.

**IF** Brittany really was on Adderall, another earlier poster is correct: That would be bad. You never want to give an untreated bipolar person a stimulant medication! Many times children are incorrectly diagnosed with ADD when they really have bipolar. This is not a good thing, which is why there is a black box warning on stimulants for children.

Diseases of the brain are really, really tricky to diagnose and treat and there is a lot of trial-and-error involved. Poor Brittany!

I don't know who x17 spoke with but the description of a PROFESSIONAL mental health treatment center sounds bogus.

As someone mentioned, psychiatrists would never outright ask someone if they are paranoid or most of those other questions. A true mental health professional can obtain symptom information in a far less obvious manner.

Inaccuracies, I'm hoping Britney Spears is truly on the road to recovery. God bless you!

My sister is on Adderall and it makes her crazier. She can't complete sentences, her mind is so scattered, racing from one thought to the next - and you can't get a word in edgewise - she cuts you off and it's really strange - she doesn't even realize she's doing it. I was scared being around her when she took that crap.

What can Brit expect? Sanity! Finally. Peace and rest. No running or shall I say driving around till all hours of the night. No men fighting over her. No cameras chasing her and having to act out. No trying to look hot or thin. It's probably the best thing for her. Finally. Although, I will miss her antics. It was a wild ride and the best reality show I have ever been addicted to. Good Luck Brit. Get better soon.

Who is your psych source? Having had a loved one in a psych ward with a serious mental illness, I can tell you this is NOT a typical psych ward experience as described. Just cause you cant take pictures of Britney and most of your staff are twiddling their thumbs is no excuse to publish crap like this.

It is possible to be on Litium, Depakote, Seroquel and Adderall all at once. She is probably alrealy on a combo of the meds so they wouldn't be adding it all at once. But eventually she could be on all at once plus more. Adderall would only be used in bipolar patients if depression and lethargy are prominent. But never in a manic episode. I'm just wondering how the laxative thing is going since you can't go to the bathroom by yourself and she must be in there quite a bit.

    Posted by: Anonymous

i have been diagnosed with bipolar since I was 13. I am 19 now. I am also a student of undergraduate neuroscience. I know a lot about this field and the medications. Britney would not be put on depakote and lithium. They are both very powerful medications. They normally start with anti-convulsants; trileptal and lamictal are pretty popular. Then move on to the harder stuff as in depakote and lithium. The side effects and long term use of those two drugs are pretty bad, so logically you would not want to put a paitent on those two drugs unless it is needed. Anti-convulsants are usually always the first pick. Lithium would be a last resort drug since there are so many horrific side effects. I have been on all of those drugs mentioned and lithium was my last resort. Also, not all bipolars need to be on an anti-psychotic (seroquel) unless they need too. Please be kind and not post information you are not sure of. Also, let her deal with this in peace. Bipolar is fucking hard to deal with, and being in the public eye would be HELL.

I'm getting so sick of non-mental health professionals acting like they know shit! This entire article is all wrong. You don't get restrained simply because you're high risk. You actually have to do something that would hurt yourself before they are legally allowed to strap you to a bed, and even then they can't leave you there all day. They would try drug interventions to calm you as well. Britney wouldn't get thrown on all three of those meds. They would try one and adjust accordingly in most cases so that they can monitor side effects. I also find the term "bipolars" offensive. They are people who have bipolar. The term "bipolars" is completely dehumanizing. You need to stop posting shit that you don't know about and aren't even qualified to talk about.

Here, patients are not restrained as such, but put in a room with padding and the mattress on the floor....but they are not pinned down or anything. They are right near the nurses desk...yes the room is locked but once they calm down staff come in to be with them. That is only used when people are in danger of hurting themselves or others and they are moved to a regular room as soon as possible. It doesnt sound great, but really, it is humane and caring treatment....

To the comment about being on the drugs all at once. I am a PDOC and Lithium is the first choice for the treating the manic phase of Bipolar as it is the most effective. As for the side effects, they vary by individual. Lithium initiation would begin with blood draws to find a theraputic level between .6 and 1.2. Testing every 5 days and raising the med until it reaches a theraputic level would be the protocol. I also have a child (under 10) with bipolar and he is on Lithium, Abilify, Clonidine and Medadate CD (a stimulant). He was previously on Lithium, Depakote, Risperdal, Clonidine and a small dose of Ritalin all at once. He was medicated enough to take down a horse but his metabolism didn't respond and he continued to be manic. So there. There are so many drugs to treat Bipolar and what works for on will not work for another. Side effects also affect whether an individual is compliant with taking their meds. It takes an average of 7 years to find the correct med combo for each individual, which will not be the final cocktail and will be adjusted several times over the course of a lifetime. Give her privacy.

I honestly feel bad for Britney. All of the speculation about her diagnosis and what her treatment will be is beyond ridiculous. The people writing this have no idea what mental health treatment entails. I'm a therapist. First of all. I agree about the comment about the term "bipolars' being dehumanizing. Second, since the majority of what they said will be happening isn't true, and is probably going to discourage someone who reads it from getting mental health treatment when they really need it. Please stop speculating. Give this poor girl and her family some privacy. Whether or not you like her, she's a human who deserves basic human rights. Following her around with cameras is reinforcing her maladaptive behavior by giving her attention for acting the way she does. You're feeding into it and are becoming responsible for her condition in a way.

If Britney is indeed bipolar. She has a tough road ahead of her. Bipolars like feeling manic, so they often don't want to take their meds which dampen the euphoric energized feeling.

She will need constant counseling and support from those around her to make sure she takes her meds - she will have to remain on them the rest of her life.
The people in her life who are enablers and won't be tough with her need to go away.

If Britney wants to raise her children and live a normal life, she must get her bipolar illness under control.

    I hope she can.

She needs to detox everything drugwise out of her system before they put her on all of this shit! It might be the shit she's been taking already that is making her act so irrational; now they're giving her more shit to take! She might not need anything at all if they would clean out her system--detoxification would stabilize her metabolism--hell, it's the adderall that is keeping her from sleeping. My son too that she and not only could he not sleep, but it surpressed his appetite, made him into a fucking zombie, and eventually caused him to have seizures. I don't give him any of this shit anymore--I'd rather he learned to deal with his problems himself--and so would he.

Medical professionals always think that anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, and shit like that is the answer...and it may be. But how do they know that she won't have a reaction to one or more of those prescriptions? They are always ready and willing to prescribe some drugs for someone without even observing them in a controlled (i.e. w/o drugs) environment. They should use this shit moderately and stop thinking that drugs are the answer for everything when they really don't know what the problem is. DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS!

I am glad that there are people out there who actually KNOW something about bi-polar. I have been in a hospital extremely similar to what was posted. While it is not a vacation it is necessary if you sincerely want treatment and at least it is not prison. If anyone was put on those three medications all at once they would be a walking zombie. They usually start small and work up, not bam! let's put you on everything all at once. And there are several medications out that work different on different people. Those three are just pretty common ones. I sincerely hope she gets the helps she needs, bi-polars are notorious for refusing and not taking their medication.

I love Britney! She has made a lot of bad choices in life but I believe in her and she will be fine! All she needs now is a time to recover and support from those who really love her!

Why would they put her on Depakote AND Lithium? They are both mood medications for treating bipolar disorder.
Lithium will make her feel worse than she already does...I am bipolar and have taken lithium and it makes the manic part worse!!
Depakote, Seroquel are the same meds I take along with an anti anxiety med.
They are seriously doping her up! I can barely function when taking these meds, I want to sleep all the time and they make me feel like crap 24/7!! I hope they find something that helps her and that she's open to receiving that help!!

I'm SO tired of people tearing her down. Mental illness is a serious issue and it can be a debilitating illness! I suffer from Serious Bipolar disorder and I have severe ups and downs. Unless you've been through it, you have NO idea what's going on in her mind!! It's normal for a Dr. to ask all those questions, I get them every time I go to the Dr.
She's a human being with REAL problems, she's probably scared to death, mind going a million miles an hour, all the frantic attention freaks her out, it's why she looks so out of it all the time, she goes blank and freezes up when she panics! I do the same thing when I go out. Give her a break and please stop judging her!! Would any of you trashing her want people you don't know tearing you apart as a person, dragging you through the mud when they don't REALLY understand what's going on? Let her get some help without making it harder for her!!

and to the person who said Bipolar's enjoy being manic....try experiencing it and tell me you enjoy feeling like your cracked out, racing, can't sit still, not being able to think clearly at all but wishing you could just STOP and rest!! I don't know about most who suffer from this illness, but I for one DO NOT enjoy feeling Manic!!

To the person who said she won't be on all those meds at once....it can happen! If her condition is serious enough. I'm Bipolar and I'm on Depakote, Seroquel, Prozac, and something for Anxiety! She may have more than just the Bipolar going on. Anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress from losing her kids and going through this hell with the divorce...She can be on all of these meds, but she'll have to be watched and they will have to do blood work regularly to make sure her levels aren't to high!

I'm a physician. The description of the "psych ward" (we don't even use those terms anymore in modern medicine) are completely inaccurate. Those 3 meds are NEVER used together. Patients are NEVER restrained for more than 30 minutes without continual physician assessment. This is fact. Don't believe all of these silly posts about medicine unless you hear it from a doctor.

I have been working in mental health for 7 years, specifically on adult psychiatric units (which is what they are called, wards is a term only used in the movies). On any psych unit, if a patient is a danger to themselves or others they are usually placed on 1:1 observation. This means they are paired with a trained member of the staff who monitors the patient at arms length at all times. The patient is kept on 1:1 observation until he/she is cleared by the treatment team (consisting of psychiatrist, medical doctor, clincal staff, and nurses). If Britney was placed on 1:1 or constant obersation, it would mean that she had intent to hurt herself. Even if she was not on 1:1 she would still be monitored every 15 minutes for the first few days of admission as that is the standard practice of most psychiatric units. It is the decision of the treatment team to change her monitoring to every 30 mintues, or every hour. This varies for every hospital though. My hospital keeps patients on 15 minute observations for the duration of their stay if they were admittied due to suicidal thoughts or harm to themselves. Other facilities deam a paitent worthy of being monitored every 30 min or every hour if they appear safe on the unit and visible in the mileau. As for medications, ativan is given to many patients apon arrival in order to calm them. Once she is fully evaluated by the treatment team, it is only then that they will choose a good medication regimine for her. For the moment I am sure they are giving her Ativan and Haldol to calm her. Psychiatric Units are not scary places, they are places that give hope to people who struggle with the disease of mental illness. The only problem is that Britney needs to be treated as an equal on the unit and not as a special case. If she is treated any differently or given special privialges it will impair her treatment. I hope she listens to the staff and follows the routine. I wish her all the best.

Semel Institute... it's so wierd that Terry Semel (an unconfirmed Scientologist)endowed the very same Psychiatric facility that Britney Spears now seeks help from... so, THIS is how they plan to recruit her! LOL

Everyone's different, of course - In my experience, it's Abilify and Lithium - my mother has bipolar disorder and those medicines have saved her life (and our family's sanity). If Britney's put on Seroquel, though, she's going to be QUITE different. Supposedly, that's the stuff that Owen Wilson is on (it's recently been approved for clinical depression in addition to being used for bipolar disorder) and he's become a zombie. Whoever said that that stuff kicks your ass is right - it's totally taken the spark right out of his baby-blues ...

Thank God! I thought I would never see the day. I hoped this would happen or I was afraid the outcome would be drastically different. I hope that this will allow her to get her life back in track so she can begin to mother her children. I hope this works for her, she is human and all life is precious.

why is it that we find other people's problems so ammusing?
    she's a real person too.
can you imagin dealing with something like that and having the world watch you do it?
i'm not saying that i agree with the things she does or can come close to trying to understand them and i'm not saying that she's even a good person.
but whooo are we to judge her?
you say that she's crazy and that she's messed up...as you sit at your computered ammused by someone else's life...and entertained by another persons suffering.
    who are we to judge?
yes, i understand the support and hope people are sending out to her but why say awful things that she'll never read anyways?
maybe before we start judging someone else we should take a good look at ourselves.
    are you perfect?
go ahead and throw the first stone..

    Posted by: John 8:7

Well John I guess you should look at yourself as you are judging the very people you claim to be in judgement of Britney. It is ridiculous to expect perfection in anyone as it doesnt exist. It is very hard to have endless sympathy for someone who has had opportunites to get help and has not taken them unless forced to. If she had played out her drama in private and not been out seeking attention all the time she would probably have alot more support. Are her kids getting the same kind of support not having a mother right now? Leave it to the doctors to properly diagnose her if in fact she does have a definite mental illness. Until that is confirmed alot of people will probably continue to think she is a selfish, stubborn, immature girl who is going to live life on her terms despite the consequences that affect others in her life. For her sake I hope she gets the best medical care (which many dont and they certainly deserve compassion too) and can live a happy, productive life and reconnect with her kids who really need their mother.

T & John you are both right. She's brought much of this on herself, but then again it is terrible that many people seem to really have a hatred of someone they have never met?? Who knows what she is really like. Anyway, and this is a question for any person with bi-polar..she didn't used to act like this (before the whole K-fed thing)does this disease relate in any way to her close pregnacies? I wonder? At first I thought she was having post -part. If anyone can shed some light though on the question of how bi-polar disease first surfaces...please do?

That image is such a lousy piece of photoshopping. Or has someone already said that?

We all know this will probably be the 1st time her nasty weave will be washed and she is bathed in months. It takes someone ELSE to do it for her.

This is WAY beyond a Mariah Carey breakdown.

I hope they shave her head and get rid of that nasty looking weave. It's bald Britney bitch!

UCLA food is horrible, same as all hospitals, but Britney there is an In and Out on the corner, and a Burger King, as well as many fabulous resturants in the neighborhood. The Garden was great, love their Avacado dip. The rest will do her good. Too much going on in this young girls life. People wanting a peice of her coming from all directions. Sometimes the real world can get too heavy even for people who can handle quite a bit. And it can really take its toll. The Ativan is used quite a bit, it should help her calm down and relax the nerves a bit and the stress. Britney get a great team of lawyers behind you and let them do their job, take care of yourself now, and let them shoulder the responsibility of making sure all these legal matters are takin care of. Anyone can sue anybody doesn't make them right. And Kevin find a way for Britney to be able to see her children in a safe enviroment for them. This isn't about money its about their mother. It would be a good thing for them and her. And who knows it may benefit you some way as well. And to the media , enough is enough give her time to have a Breath of releif. She needs the quiet time of being alone to see that she can go through this. Driving around in the car is typical of someone who feels trapped and has alot of stress, it has a certain type of calming effect with the radio on with good toones, and the top down. Britney stay strong. This will pass, more people in this world are dealing with this than you know.

11:34am "And since when do doctors ask, "Are you paranoid?" I mean ... do paranoid people know they're paranoid?"

    ______-

Are you new or WHAT fella. Of course a therapist/Dr would ask this sort of question. Paranoia is what CAUSES anxiety etc. You're making comments like you know what you're talking about, and honestly, you sound like a COMPLETE idiot.
And then again with this comment you made...

"I don't know if she will need Ativan with Seroquel though. That stuff kicks your ass"

    __________

Again...No, Atavan does NOT "Kick your ass".

It seems that treating Bipolar on the west coast is quite different than the east coast. Yes....again I repeat Depakote, Litium and Seroquel CAN and IS used at the same time in certain patients. This is from the East Coast.

    Posted by: Anonymous

I'd be careful believing all this info. State laws would probably restrict how much she is restrained, and Depakote alone can settle a person into a zombie state.

I am a Bipolar for 10 years. I have been on TRILEPTAL AND KLONOPIN FOR SEVERAL YEARS. FOR ME TRILEPTAL IS A MIRACLE DRUG. IT IS A MOOD STABILIZER AND THE KLONOPIN IS FOR ANXIETY. THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO TREAT BIPOLAR DISORDER. IT IS BASED ON THE INIDIVIDUAL AND WHAT WORKS. IT IS "TRIAL AND ERROR" TO FIGURE OUT WHICH DRUGS WORK FOR THE INDIVIDUAL PERSON. FOR MANY YEARS I WAS GIVEN JUST ABOUT EVERY KIND FO ANTI-DEPRESSANT ON THE MARKERT. NOTHING WORKED. I CONTINUED TO HAVE MOOD SWINGS AND FINALLY A FEW YEARS BACK A DOCTOR GAVE ME TRILEPTAL AND I HAVE BEEN FUNTIONING WELL MOST DAYS SINCE. AND YES IT IS TRUE AT LEAST FOR ME I HATE THOSE ZOMBIE DRUGS. I AM HYPOMANIC BIPOLAR AND I FOND IT VERY USEFUL AT TIMES THAT I WAS OCD, HAD TONS OF ENERGY, WAS VERY CREATIVE AND AT THE TOP OF MY GAME BUT THEN WHEN I CRASHED IT SUCKED. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WITH MANIA. AND IT IS TEXTBOOK STUFF THAT BIPOLARS ENJOY THE MANIA AND THAT IS WHY IT IS HARD TO KEEP US ON THE MEDS. BUT FOR ME I THINK IT WAS ALL ABOUT SELF-AWARENESS AND ACCEPTANCE OF MY DISORDER AND CONSTANT MAINTENANCE WITH A THERAPIST THAT I COMPLETELY TRUST AND AM AS HONEST AS I CAN BE. I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO LEARN TO DEAL WITH AFTER BEING STABILIZED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME IS THAT IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THE THINGS THAT TRIGGER THE DOWNWARD DEPRESSION SPIRALS AND ALSO TO BE SELF-AWARE OF THE SYMPTOMS OF MANIA. FOR ME THIS HAS BEEN VERY EFFECTIVE. I NOW KNOW WHENI AM MANIC AND I KNOW I NEED TO TELL SOMEONE HOW IFEEL AND TRY TO GET HELP BEFORE THE MANIC EPISODE CAUSES ME TO REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION. I AM GLAD THAT MANY PEOPLE ON HERE TONIGHT ARE SO FORTHCOMING ABOUT THEIR TRUE LIFE DEALINGS WITH FIGHTING THIS TERRIFYING DISEASE. IT IS SCARY ALONE, WE NEED TO HAVE CONTACTS THAT WE TRUST AND WHEN WE FEEL DEPRESSED WE NEED SOMEONE WE TRUST TO COME AND GET US AND TAKE US OUT AND GET US OUT OF OURSELVES IF POSSIBLE. WE NEED SOMEONE WE TRUST TO CALL WHEN WE ARE FEELING PANICKED. BECASUE AS OST OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT ARE BIPOLAR THE PANIC ATTACKS MAKE YOU FEEL AS IF YOU ARE GOING TO DIE AND IT IS SO PAINFUL. THE BODY DRAWS UP AND THE MUSCLES ACHE AND YOU'RE SO, SO TIRED BUT YOU CAN'T SLEEP. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WITH BIPOLAR FOR SHARING YORU STORIES.
