X17 REWIND - Anatomy of a Breakdown
Ahhh, February 2007 -- what a month! It's the month that will go down in history as the month of Britney Spears' breakdown. She shaved her head, went to rehab, and beat an X17 car with an umbrella (for which she later apologized)!
Here's a look back on some stories I did earlier this year in which we reviewed the events leading up the this fateful month:
A Britney Timeline: Part 1 - The Paris Phase (first posted March 21):
We're gonna take a look back at Britney, from the time she and Kevin announced their split, all the way up to her release from rehab today -- the wild ride of our favorite pop star, on which X17 has ridden shotgun.
Perhaps what tipped it all off was the announcement on November 13 that Britney would file for divorce from Kevin ...
Britney and Paris were introduced in Vegas on November 20 and two days later Brit was at Hilton's Hollywood Hills house partying until the wee hours of the morning, with William Morris agent Jason Trawick.
The next day, Britney and Jason, still wearing the same clothes as the night before, were out shopping together in Santa Monica at The Right Start baby supply store. That evening, Britney and Paris were back together, this time at Teddy's in Hollywood.
The next night, the Wonder Twins headed out to Hyde and Britney, for the first time, shoed the word she was free and natural under her skirt! On the 25th, Britney and Paris shopped in Malibu with baby Sean along for the ride.
Later that Saturday night, Paris and Brit went out partying again and showed off their new look -- shared fishnet stockings! The next night the Twins wore matching shirts as they left Paris' house to party again ...
The pair joined their estranged pal Lindsay Lohan at the Beverly Hills hotel on Monday (actually early Tuesday morning) where Oops!, she did it again ...

A Britney Timeline: Part 2 - The Party Phase ...
To pick up where we last left off, on November 28, Britney left a West Hollywood Italian restaurant with a glass of wine in one hand and a cig in the other, and proceeded to get behind the wheel of her Porsche, which she had apparently forgotten how to drive -- she got assistance from photographers who reminded her that the ignition is to the left of the steering while on her sports car ... Then a week later, Britney emerged for an evening at Les Deux with a new brunette look -- maybe this was the beginning of her hair obsession that later turned sour in the form of her going bald?
Then two days later, it was back to work for Britney. Britney was being heavily criticized for her new partying ways and she slowed down just long enough to get herself into the studio to record. But her attention was diverted by a young music producer named JR Rotem. X17 brought you the exclusive pix of the couple's makeout session at a West Hollywood cafe.
In the week that followed, Britney made a series of boobalicious appearances -- from nightclubs to Christmas shopping.
Again, forshadowing her eventual shaved head/tattoo breakdown, Britney inked up in December with his sister and friends looking on.
And on January 3, X17 brought to you exclusive, this pic of Britney out partying -- an image that was subsequently used by media outlets around the world to illustrate their hypothoses of drug and alcohol abuse by Britney ...
Then on Jan. 6, Brit turned up at the posh Santa Monica hotel Shutters in nothing more than a bathing suit covered by what appeared to be lingerie. A few days later she bought a new chihuahua at a pet store, accompanied by her son Sean and by her manager Larry Rudolph.
Later that same day (on the 11th), Britney went clubbing and it was around this time that she met her soon-to-be boyfriend Isaac Cohen, on whom we think she barfed the very next night (in light of everything since this day, don't you former disbelievers believe us now?)!
A Britney Timeline: Part 3 - The Isaac Phase
Britney and Isaac Cohen's relationship was bumpy from the get-go (see Peanutbuttergate), perhaps due in part to the strange behavior Cohen reported of Britney during this period.
Britney got moody around the middle of January and started hanging with her girlfriends and even reading up on her relationship with Isaac in magazines.
On Jan. 20, Britney and Isaac went to Cabana, though just a couple days before, Brit told X17 exclusively that she and Cohen were no longer together?! The next day, Britney put Sean in the back of the car, her assistant at the wheel, and she headed off to Vegas by car ...
On the 25th of January, we saw Britney back to work at a dance studio, choreographing some moves for what performance, I have no idea, but she brought both Sean and Jayden to work with her and X17 snapped this exclusive shot. Just days before, Britney had rented this Beverly Hills home and moved her family there.
At the end of the month, we spotted Brit back with Isaac and wearing his Star of David necklace -- had she converted to Judaism? Then on February 6, we snapped Britney in New York where she was seen all over town partying late into the night, every night.
A Britney Timeline: Part 4 - The Fall And The Resurrection
On February 16, X17 caught Britney's meltdown on camera ...
On the evening of February 19, we caught Britney out at the Beverly Hills Hotel with a platinum blonde wig and then the next day, girlfriend admitted herself to Promises rehab in Malibu, from which she promptly released herself the very next day to meet with an attorney regarding her custody dispute with estranged husband Kevin Federline. We then caught her as she entered the Bel Air Hotel, where she was reportedly kicked out after less than 24 hours.
That very night of the 21st, Britney raged in frustration at not being able to see her kids while they stayed at Kevin's house. Reports say Kevin and Brit's mom were working together to keep Britney away from Sean and Jayden until she agreed to seek help. But on this night, Britney took her anger out on one of our photographers and his car in these now famous, exclusive X17 photos.
Britney went back into rehab the same night and X17 spotted her a few times over the following weeks both at the center and outside, at AA meetings, as she seemed to evolve from a person who seemed raw and vulnerable to a woman who began to care about her appearance again, who made friends again, and who laughed again. We hope it's that Britney that has emerged from rehab with a new outlook on life, a new-found respect for herself, and renewed relationship with her family.
NOW -- fast-forward to present day and Brit's relationship with her family isn't exactly perfect ... She was the last to find out her sis Jamie Lynn was pregnant and she hasn't spoken to her mom in months.
We can only hope that 2008 is a better year for Britney!
