Although in principle I say it's never right to take advantage of someone, I totally follow your point on this one.

Britney was such a carefully created and plasticized "product" that even as she was gyrating around in a nude colored g-string and push up bra, singing about how NOT innocent she was, she was also being lauded for 'clinging to her virginity until her wedding night'.

When I look back now and think about how people were so thoroughly snowed...I realize that her "people" were possibly the most genius team that public relations/marketing has ever seen.

SOME people saw through her...I remember an old colleague of mine was just LIVID when "Baby One More Time" came out and Britney was on the cover of Rolling Stone holding the stuffed Tellytubbie...she was, what- fifteen, sixteen, when those photos were shot? She posed on a small child's bike wearing hotpants that said "baby" across the butt...AND in her parents' living room in front of her entire family in a shirt so tight and short that her nipples were waving hello to all and sundry. Anyway, my friend Kim was SO mad about the example set forth for young women and girls...later that week (the same week the RS cover with Britney debuted) we had an office party for someone's birthday and it was at a Karaoke bar. Kim had one or six too many cosmos and when it was her turn to sing, Britney's current single (the aforementioned 'Baby One More Time') started playing...Kim made up her own lyrics and while I don't remember the whole thing, I do remember laughing so hard I almost wet myself when the familiar "bah dum bah DUM..." drumbeat came on and Kim started singing (instead of the real lyrics, which I do not recall) *bah dum bah DUM* "...I'm on-ly four-teen and I'm humped twen-ty dudes..."*bah dum bah DUM* and then later on in the song-- "...how was I sup-posed to know...that some-thin' wasn't ri-ight..." and then she screamed "It was the HERPES!"
