BRITNEY SPEARS' custody battle hit another bump on Tuesday (18Dec07) when the pop star was noticeably unprepared for a visit from her two young kids.

The singer wasn't even at home when Sean Preston and Jayden James were dropped off by ex-husband Kevin Federline's bodyguard/driver. She had been staying at the Peninsula Hotel after a night out with friends
and was almost 30 minutes late to greet her kids. Upon her arrival, a nanny was dispatched to a nearby supermarket to pick up milk and juice for the boys.

A photographer staking out the Spears compound says, "Britney arrived really flustered and obviously had other things on her mind. The nanny went shopping as soon as she arrived."

The slip-up came just hours after Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan won a delay for the latest custody hearing, claiming he needed time to reschedule a deposition meeting with Spears and review what she says under oath. The next hearing will now take place in February.
