My parents smoked and as a child I hated it. But when I grew up, I smoked too. However, when I found out I was pregnant I forced myself to quit because I didn't want my child to go through the disgust and humiliation that I did growing up. I remember actually lighting a cigarette when I was about Sean Preston's age and nearly burning down the house! I really want the best for Britney.... I am glad that she is doing well, however, it is horrible and sick that she is smoking in front of her kids and even more disturbing that one of her kids picked up her pack of smokes. I am not judging her, that is not my place, but I do feel sorry for her kids. I grew up around smokers and it was gross.... I even ended up smoking (and then quitting) because I grew up around it. I think britney is being a good mum, as you can see she is outside blowing the smoke away from her child, taking lighter off him, and it's clear she loves him and he loves her. People need to give her a break loads of parents just smoke in the house or beat the kids.

Ok I think it is absolutely ridiculous that people are defending her smoking...let me guess you are probably smokers too. Smoking is the rudest thing a person can do, it is bad enough you want to hurt yourself but smoking takes others with you. There is no excuse for her. She isn't doing right by smoking outside..her example and the smoke is still there. People who truly care and put their children first put away such selfish and harmful things. There is not one good thing that comes from smoking period....but especially in front of a child!!!!

One thing parents need to understand is that you choose the child...and yes you choose a child when you decide you are mature enough for sex. Anyway the child has no choice therefore you should take FULL responsibility for your actions and be willing to do what is necessary for your child's safety and well being.

K, I respect your opinion but I still think that nothing good comes from smoking period. I realize that I am a nonsmoker and my children could still end up smokers but I don't agree with condoning the behavior. I also don't feel that I am commenting on her just b/c she is a celebrity. I feel this way across the board no matter who you are. I don't care what belief system you are there is no defending smoking on any level, the medical facts do all of the work for us. Therefore how can a parent even nonsmoker condone such a thing, and worse yet if the parent is a smoker but doesn't want their child to be a smoker, then you have lost all your ground with your child b/c you smoke. You can speak to your child until you are blue in the face but NOTHING speaks louder than your influence and what you do. The child watches even without you saying a word, I hate to say the cliche but actions speak louder than words. the only reason I decided to comment on this blog is b/c of how blown away I was of peoples attitudes toward parenting and smoking. Bottom line people want to do what they want to do and I hate that children are the ones who often suffer for it. I would rather someone not have children then to treat them that way. So while smoking is a serious thing it disturbs me more people's views and laid back attitudes towards parenting which is why we have a new generation of disrespectful young people b/c they aren't taught any different, they are disciplined and people just want to have kids and still do whatever they want.

But to expose your child to second hand smoke and think it is okay is beyond my understanding. If this was her only mistake, then it probably wouldn't be a big deal.
