'Mall Cop' Tops Weekend Box Office

Movies MallCop200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Even with a full slate of Oscar contenders in theaters, movie goers flocked to see a light hearted comedy staring a former sit-com actor.

"Paul Blart: Mall Cop," with Kevin James in the title role was the number one movie at the box office this weekend, earning an estimated $33.8 million dollars.

Last week's top film, "Grand Torino" had another strong weekend, earning an additional $22.2 million.

Opening in fourth place was the hip-hop biopic "Notorious." The film which charts the life and death of rapper Biggie Smalls earned $21.5 million.

Also in the top five, "My Bloody Valentine" earned $21.9 million and "Hotel for Dogs" which brought in $17.7 million.
