MadonnaMercyAdopt200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Madonna has won the fight to adopt a second child from Malawi, after the country's highest court approved the adoption previously denied by a lower court.

This means Madonna will be allowed to adopt 3-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James, an orphan she met in 2006 while in the process of adopting her first child from Malawi.

Madonna's attorney Alan Chinula delivered the news to Madonna.

"It was the wee hours of the morning in New York but she is excited at the news," Chinula told the Associated Press. "As her lawyer I am happy that this has settled this contentious issue."

A passport is being arranged for Mercy and Madonna is expected to travel to Malawi in the next few days to meet up with her new daughter.
