Drew Barrymore Honored By GLAAD

barrymore200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Golden Globe Winning actress Drew Barrymore will be given the prestigious Vanguard Award at the 21st Annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards.

Barrymore strongly opposed Proposition 8, joining thousands on the streets of West Hollywood in support of gay marriage. She has also starred in numerous movie roles that have increased the visibility and understanding of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. Just last year, she played Robert De Niro's lesbian daughter in Everybody's Fine, and in 1995, she starred in Boys on the Side which nabbed a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film.

Emmy-award winning actress Wanda Sykes will be receiving the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, given to an openly gay actor or actress who has promoted equal rights for the LGBT community.

The 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards will be held on April 17, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Actress Candis Cayne and actor Wilson Cruz will host the event.
