The famously troubled son of Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett was ordered to one year of inpatient rehab treatment after pleading no contest to felony gun and heroin possession charges at a Wednesday court hearing. This was a lucky break for O'Neal, who risked a three year prison sentence.

In a statement to People Magazine, O'Neal's attorneys Michael Brewer and Richard Pintal stated: "We are pleased and grateful that the judge gave Redmond further treatment rather than incarceration. His history of addiction warrants this approach."

O’Neal was arrested in early August after police uncovered drugs in his vehicle at a traffic stop in Santa Monica. He will remain on probation for the next five years.
