Puerto Rican Group Calle 13 Wins Nine Latin Grammy Awards

CALLE200.jpgLAS VEGAS, Nevada (X17online) - Puerto Rican hip-hop group Calle 13 took home a record-breaking nine awards at the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas.

Calle 13’s awards included best short-form music video, song of the year for songwriting, and the show’s top honor, album of the year.

“We know that we aren’t the ones who get played on the radio … but the people who don’t sell themselves for money and make real music,” lead vocalist Residente said while accepting an award.

Other notable wins included Colombian pop star Shakira for best female pop vocal album and person of the year; Venezuelan singer-songwriter Franco de Vita for best male pop vocal album; and Mexican band Zoé for best rock song and best alternative music album.
