nyeboxoffice200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Good and bad news to report on New Year’s Eve’s weekend box office performance: the star-studded flick took the top spot in the slowest box office weekend since 2008.

Despite Warner Bros. and New Line’s forecast that New Year’s Eve would earn $20 million or more in its opening weekend, the film raked in an underwhelming $13.7 million.

"The box office was just in really bad shape," said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.’ president of domestic distribution. "While we had the No. 1 movie, we were No. 1 in a very soft market."

The Sitter starring Jonah Hill came in at second with $10 million, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 managed to rank third in its fourth weekend with $7.9 million.
