Is Amy Winehouse a faker? James Hannaham sure seems to think so!
Earlier today, Salon.com posted an article by the author accusing the Grammy-nominated crooner of "playing the part of the tragic talent".
Hannaham goes into exhaustive detail as to why he considers Winehouse's persona to be at least partially an act. He saves his most damning critique for the end, however:
Tellingly, she claims to have written the bulk of "Back to Black" in a burst of creativity while separated from Fielder-Civil. Despite what her public image would lead us to believe, it takes hard work to spin your misery into Grammy-nominated gold. If she'd been truly incapacitated by her husband's absence, she wouldn't have written a damn thing.
Bold claims - after all, it's pretty obvious that, like all stars, Amy's consciously chosen to give a higher profile to some aspects of her persona than others. (You certainly can't make a hairstyle as famous as Amy's made hers without some concerted effort!)
But to call her an outright faker? We can't co-sign on that - if anything, her persona only makes her grief-stricken reaction to Blake's legal woes seem more real!
