The New York Times , in a review of the new season of The Hills set to premiere tonight (we can't wait!), has declared that "Heidi has emerged as a kind of feminist hero," especially in the battle between Lauren Conrad and her former best friend.

And ya know what? They're kinda right!

At least in the context of the onscreen drama:

  • Where Lauren chose her man over her career in season one, Heidi made it clear to Spencer from the beginning that her (fake) job was a priority.

  • While Lauren pines away after unavailable guys (first Stephen, now Brody), Heidi sets clear ultimatums for her fiance.

  • We've been "Team Lauren" since the beginning...but is her "baroque moralism" (as the NYT says) a bit out-dated and old-fashioned?
