Is Katie Enjoying Her Independence From Tom - AND From Scientology?!?

So, Katie Holmes is in NYC preparing for her Broadway debut in All My Sons. Above is her during the day yesterday... and below is her with baby Suri last night:







Mother and daughter took in a showing of Mary Poppins (earlier this week it was The Little Mermaid). Doesn't sound very strange, right? Nothing wrong with Katie spending time with her little Suri!

Only thing is, last night was also The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre 39th Anniversary Gala - their biggest event of the year - and it took place back in LA! Everyone from Kelly Preston, Erika Christensen, Elisabeth Moss, Leah Remini and many others (including Tom Cruise, we imagine, as he attends every year) were present.

Now, the Hollywood couple has a private jet, and we'd assume that Tom would want wife Katie to fly back for the evening... so why didn't she? And Suri, too!

Does this mean that Ms. Holmes is really enjoying her time away in the Big Apple? We wonder!
