Jury selection began today in Britney's trial for driving without a valid California license, as 30 potential jurors were questioned this morning in a Van Nuys courtroom.

Britney is not expected to attend the trial and because it's a misdemeanor, she's not required to. Last week, her attorney J. Michael Flanagen rejected an offer from the prosecution that would have avoided a trial, but would have required Spears to plead guilty and pay a $150 fine.

The case stems from an incident in the summer of 2007 when Britney side-swiped a parked car. At the time, she had a Louisiana driver's license, but not one issued by California.

She has since obtained a valid California license and her attorney believes the case has only continued because of Spears' celebrity status.
