Fans and critics alike have been praising Britney Spears' new album and title track, "Circus," but PETA isn't ready to get all warm and fuzzy with the pop princess after seeing the new music video!

In a statement released today, PETA has made it clear that they do not approve of Britney using trained lions and elephants in her "Circus" video, and they even wrote to her and explained how trainers shock, whip, and beat exotic animals into performing. PETA has also posted an action alert and a blog on their website asking people to contact Brit and demand that she stop using exotic animals in her videos and concerts.

PETA claims that the exhibitors that provided the lions and elephants for the video, Steve Martin's Working Wildlife and Have Trunk Will Travel, have both had a long history of exploiting animals.

PETA Director Debbie Leahy says:
"Britney may think her life is a circus, but for the animals who are whipped, chained, and beaten to perform under the real big top, the cruelty is very real. She may be headed for a comeback, but when it comes to animals, she still can't get her act together."
