Dakota Fanning has been offered the role of Jane in the Twilight sequel New Moon, according to E! News.

The report says the 14-year-old Dakota didn't even have to audition for the part!!!

"They just offered it to her outright, and now they're in negotiations," a source says.

This should be pretty good news for die-hard Twilighters who had organized an online petition demanding that Summit Entertainment give Fanning the role of Jane.

Unfortch, you've still got to wait another 10 months till New Moon hits theaters in November.
