Kiefersurrenders200.jpgKiefer Sutherland will surrender to authorities as early as today to be booked on charges he assaulted Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCollough at a party in New York City on Monday night.

Sutherland will be charged with third-degree assault, for allegedly headbutting the designer.

A friend of the 24 star told the NY Daily News Kiefer regrets the incident.

"Kiefer is sorry. It happened. Absolutely. It's terribly regrettable," the friend said.

However, the friend isn't backing down from his allegations that McCollough started the altercation.

"Kiefer was provoked," the friend insists.

While the charges are described as "minor," it's not clear if Sutherland's latest legal problems will after the scheduled start of filming for 24's upcoming 8th season.
