While I had mixed feelings about last night's season finale of HBO's True Blood, I'm definitely eager for the third season to return to the network, and I can't wait for the teasers to come out. Unfortunately we're going to have to wait a few more months for that, but Michael Ausiello from EW was lucky enough to sit down with True Blood creator Alan Ball, and he gave us some deets on what we can expect when the show returns next year.

When asked why we didn't see more of the deliciously evil Eric Northman in the season finale, Ball said:
There is a reason for not seeing Eric in the last part of the episode, but if I explain it, I’ll be [giving away] too much...I thought wow, I had many seasons of Eric planned but I guess I’ll have to off him...Personally, I’m like, yes, Eric’s hot, but beyond that he’s dangerous, and I don’t know if he’d love anybody besides himself. What’s the appeal there? The bad boy? The danger?

On Evan Rachel Wood's Queen not being "scary enough," Ball said:
She will [show her scary side]. You don’t want to introduce a character you’re going to see later and blow your wad up front...All I can say is keep watching. It will make sense...She won’t be a series regular, but she will appear. Every state has its own vampire royalty. We will meet the King of Mississippi (newly cast Tony winner Denis O’Hare). Interesting things happening between him and Evan’s Queen.

Ball added that Lafayette will get a boyfriend next season, and we will finally find out what exactly Sookie is. So who took Bill? Click after the jump to see what Alan told Michael!
