djam033009x17.jpg We were deeply saddened to learn that DJ AM (nee Adam Goldstein) was found dead in his NYC apartment last Friday, and this latest news is even more heart-wrenching.

The New York Post reports that DJ AM had been missing appointments and acting erratically in recent weeks, so naturally his West Coast manager and recovery sponsor became concerned. The two took a red-eye to NYC on Wednesday night to confront AM at his SoHo apartment the next morning, and while he was alive when they met with him on Thursday, it looks like they may have been too late.

When they showed up at his door, AM refused to see his manager but he did allow his sponsor to come in, and once inside the troubled DJ reportedly lit up a crack pipe and popped pills in front of his friend. AM then promised both his sponsor and manager that he would check himself into a rehab clinic in California after making a scheduled gig at the Palms in Las Vegas the following night.

When DJ AM missed his flight to Las Vegas on Friday and didn't return phone calls, friends brought cops to his apartment, and that's when they found him dead in his bedroom.
