Avatar Only Pulls $3.5 Million At Midnight Screenings

Despite all the hype, James Cameron's Avatar isn't off to a fantastic start at the box office. The CGI heavy action flick only grossed $3.54 million from it's midnight shows, according to 20th Century Fox. While that seems like a lot, remember...this movie cost over $300 million to make!
Just for comparison, The Twilight Saga: New Moon pulled $26.3 million for it's midnight opening, and while that amount was record breaking, we're thinking James and the folks at Fox are a little disappointed about the first round of numbers. Maybe this weekend will be a different story?
