X17 XCLUSIVE - Is Britney Engaged? Sources Tell X17 She's Not In Love With Jason ...



We're as tired of Britney-Jason engagement rumors as you are, but this time there's an interesting twist ...

Brit's got a new ring on her left hand ring finger but really, the girl wears new bits and bobs every day and let's face it -- she doesn't pay attention to what finger she's putting it on as long as it fits!

BUT sources are telling X17 Jason's close to trying to seal the deal with Miss Spears -- so could this be a promise ring? A preview of things (bigger and better, we hope) to come?

If Papa Jamie Spears has his way, Trawick will marry his daughter before the year's end but if Britney gets her way, she'll leave Jason for the real love of her life ... Adnan!

Yes, various sources close to Britney are telling us that the Queen B is anything but over her former paparazzo flame and that she's still in contact with him, much to her father's dismay.

What's more, we're told Jason Trawick's aware of his girlfriend's longing for her ex and while he's upset about it, it's not dissuading him from moving forward with Brit. In fact, one source tells X17:

"Jason's been obsessed with Britney for years -- since, like, 2007. He kept pursuing Britney -- beyond his professional pursuit of her -- until she finally broke down and went on a date with him. Then her dad pushed the relationship. He thought Britney could marry this nice, professional Christian guy ... and then he realized Jason is Jewish. But he didn't really care; he just wanted Britney to find a guy to take care of her and who would treat her well."

Well if you've seen our pix of the couple over the past year, anyone can see the two aren't exactly lovey-dovey or romantic with each other. But the news that Brit's still pining away for Adnan is a shocker!

Despite the nice guy being right in front of her, Britney, apparently, wants the bad boy. You'll remember Jamie, as Brit's conservator, got a restraining order against Ghalib in January last year. But our source claims that hasn't stopped the star-crossed lovers from texting and calling each other. In fact, we're told Jason intercepted some of those texts and threw a fit!

So what's next for Britney? It seems she'd definitely like to settle down, just maybe not with Jason!
