Heidi's hubby continues to surprise us!

Spencer Pratt - who's currently studying software engineering with a focus on encryption at USC - doesn't want to be a reality TV star anymore. He tells the following to People:

"Upon learning of President Obama's declaration that the 'cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation,' I have decided to refocus my energy and devote my full resources to helping America face this and other unprecedented challenges. My new mission is this: To do my part in maintaining the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent emerging technologies from threatening our nation's security. With that being said, I am saddened to take this break from filming MTV's The Hills. At this time, however I feel I would not be honoring my country or myself if I were to continue this endeavor when I have the opportunity and the ability to assist our nation against these prevalent threats."

Damn, that's quite a mouthful! But is this new career plan for real or just for publicity?

UPDATE:

US Weekly reports that Spencer isn't taking a break from the show to fight cyber bullies, but rather because he was ASKED to leave! A source tells the mag:

"All of that stuff about him leaving The Hills to fight cyber crime is not true. He is leaving The Hills for 6 weeks because he was asked to ... the show agreed that Spencer would leave The Hills for six weeks to do anger management training once a week at home. If he completes it, he can return to the show."

The source explains that Pratt recently "flipped out" on a female producer, threatening to kill her and screaming at her when she asked him to do something to which he objected. The producer was so rattled by Spencer's behavior, she filed a complaint with the show's senior producers who then threatened to kick Pratt off the show.
