Jennifer Aniston's appearance this morning on Live with Regis and Kelly has caused an uproar with the mentally challenged community due to her use of the word "retard."

During the interview to promote her latest film The Switch, Regis brought up her Harper's Bazaar photoshoot in which she dresses up as Barbra Streisand. He then says, "You're playing dress up." Aniston, 41, replies, "Yes, I play dress up. I do it for a living, like a retard."

Members of The Arc, a nonprofit advocate for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, are up in arms. CEO Peter Berns released the following statement to X17online:

“We estimate that there are probably in excess of 5 million people in the country with intellectual disabilities, and when you think about all of them, their family members and friends, you're talking about tens of millions of people who find the use of that term to be really offensive. Every time folks hear that word, it reminds them of all the discrimination and oppression they've experienced in their lives. Even if it wasn't intended to insult them, that is the effect of it."

The Arc is calling on Aniston to apologize for her "inadvertent remark." Jennifer Aniston's rep was not available for comment.
