samanthasdogattacked200.jpgSamantha Ronson's bulldog, Cadillac, has left the DJ facing a criminal investigation after the dog attack yesterday that resulted in the death of a neighbor's small maltese.

The Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control tells X17online that the "attack is substantial" enough to warrant such an investigation. It was yesterday just after 11am when police responded to a dog biting call at the West Hollywood apartment complex where Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan call home.

Samantha, who publicly apologized for the attack on her Twitter account, will most likely not face jail time. Animal Control adds:

"It was an accident. She didn't open the door to her apartment and say 'attack.' Right now, the main concern is whether the dog is a threat to anybody else at this point. We've heard that she's sending her dog to the East Coast, so most likely, the dog will be quarantined in a location that's safe."

As for whether Cadillac will be euthanized, we're told "probably not." The bulldog would only be put down "if there's an irresponsible owner, but that doesn't seem to be the case."

Animal Control says that Ronson is not being treated any different than the average person. In fact, they tell us "we didn't even know who she was when the call came in. All we saw on the report was the name Lohan."

X17online has learned the investigation could last up to three months.
