Taylor Swift, who always pours her heart into her songs, reveals a romance-gone-wrong with an older man in the new song, "Dear John," which many speculate is about playboy John Mayer, with whom she collaborated on his "Half of my Heart" in 2009.
In the lyrics, obtained by Yahoo's Chris Willman, Taylor writes:
- “Dear John/I see it all now that you’re gone/Don’t you think I was too young/To be messed with/The girl in the dress/Cried the whole way home/I should’ve known.â€Â
“It was wrong/Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/To be played/By your dark, twisted games/When I loved you so.â€Â
“You’ll add my name to your long list of traitors who don’t understand/And I’ll look back in regret I ignored what they said/‘Run as fast as you can’.â€Â
After a very public Twitter love-fest between the two ensued, rumors of a romance abounded. But few believed the innocent Swift and self-proclaimed d-bag Mayer would actually hook up -- so are these lyrics just fantasy? Or is there some truth to them?
“They’re all made very clear,†Taylor told Willman of her easy-to-interpret songs. “Every single song is like a roadmap to what that relationship stood for, with little markers that maybe everyone won’t know, but there are things that were little nuances of the relationship, little hints. And every single song is like that. Everyone will know, so I don’t really have to send out emails on this one.â€Â
Well, there you have it!
