Despite the fact that Inferno director Matthew Wilder told E! News they dropped Lindsay Lohan from the project, we're hearing an entirely different story!

A source very close to the actress tells X17online that Lindsay "quit Inferno, she wasn't fired."

This does seem to make more sense - after all, Wilder has been insistent about sticking by LiLo's side throughout this whole ordeal. Why would he suddenly drop her?

"Lindsay met with Inferno's Matthew Wilder last week and that's pretty much when she quit," explains our source.

Another source tells us Lindsay is being more selective with her projects and wants to pursue roles "like the ones that made her successful." Linds "also realizes that she doesn't need to identify with roles that relate to issues she has personally dealt with. Even her counselors, laywers and family members have stressed that."

Playing porn star Linda Lovelace immediately after leaving rehab wouldn't be the smartest idea, and we're in total agreement!

The source also claims that director Wilder was "using Lindsay to promote himself and Wilder was talking too much to the press."

Meanwhile, Malin Akerman (of Watchmen and, originally, TV's The Comeback) is now confirmed to take Lindsay's place in Inferno, according to Deadline. Best of luck!

There'll be plenty more projects to pursue after LiLo's stint at Betty Ford, including The Dry Gulch Kid. Just focus on getting better for now, girl!
