One week has passed since Rihanna and Christina Aguilera hit the stage for X Factor's finale in the UK, but their risque performances have media regulator Ofcom investigating whether the acts were lewd and indecent for the 7 - 9pm hour.

ITV aired the show on December 11, but immediately after, thousands of complaints came in to network claiming the routines were "disgusting" for a family audience.

Reports are claiming that the performances may have violated a broadcasting code "which seeks to protect children from sexualized content."

According to Ofcom's Broadcasting Code, "children must be protected by appropriate scheduling from material that is unsuitable for them. Material that is unsuitable for children should not, in general, be shown before 9pm or after 5:30am."
