When Lady Gaga won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys last night (beating out Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Susan Boyle and John Mayer for the prize), she thanked Whitney Houston in her acceptance speech, which left many fans and critics scratching their heads.

Gaga said, "I need to say thank you tonight to Whitney Houston. I wanted to thank Whitney because when I wrote 'Born This Way,' I imagined she was singing it because I wasn't secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So Whitney, I imagined you were singing 'Born This Way' when I wrote it. Thank you."

But why did she thank Whitney? We know the singer is a legend, but shouldn't she be thanking Madonna, whose song "Express Yourself" was obviously the true inspiration for her latest single?
