Lawyers for Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, who were found guilty of killing Meredith Kercher in 2007, have demanded that Lifetime yank their TV movie Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial, starring Hayden Panettiere.
Kercher was found stabbed to death in the Perugia apartment she shared with Knox in November of 2007, and in 2009 Knox and Sollecito were convicted of sexual assault and murder. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison and Sollecito 25 years, and their appeals trial is under way. Rudy Hermann Guede, who was also reportedly present at the time Kercher was killed, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 16 years behind bars.
Panettiere plays Knox in the made-for-television movie, and she seems torn about whether Knox is guilty of the crime. "It's like, 'She's innocent. She's guilty. She's innocent. She's guilty. She's innocent'. I can't say I have an opinion and that's why the story is so interesting - the facts and what people said and the changes in stories," she says.
Knox's attorney Della Vedova sent a warning to Lifetime last week in an attempt to cancel the film and remove the trailer from their website, saying that it presented scenes that were "beyond any logic" and hyped up to attract viewers. The network has yet to issue a statement on the matter, but we were able to find the film's trailer ... click the video above to check it out.
