Angelina Jolie put her star power to good use today, with her visit to a refugee camp in Tunisia.
An estimated 15,000 refugees fill the temporary camp - they are not only people fleeing violence in Libya, but people from Nigeria, Eritrea and other African countries in the region.
Angelina visited the camp in her capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR, and listened to the stories of many refugees who used the media attention she brought with her, as an opportunity to plead to the rest of the world for help.
In fact, Jolie herself offered some help. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation paid for the flights of 177 refugees to return to their homelands. A very generous gift from this Hollywood super-couple, but more is needed ...
The refugees welcomed Jolie by chanting and singing but some refugees were a bit overzealous and security whisked away the actress earlier than scheduled, to ensure her safety. While the precautions were more about crown control than anything, an X17 photographer there in Tunisia tells us Jolie was scheduled to make two other trips in the area, including to a Red Cross hospital, but that her itinerary was changed because of security concerns.
