Fox confirmed Monday that Nicole Scherzinger, who was acting as co-host of the new, U.S. version of The X Factor will replace Cheryl Cole as a judge on the show.

Cole got the boot about 10 days ago; rumored reasons included that the British singer's accent, weight, chemistry with her fellow judges and lack of celebrity in America were all problems. Scherzinger will join judges Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul.

Reportedly, Cole will still get the $1.5 million she was owed under her contract with the show. The British songstress is supposedly so offended by the firing, she won't re-join the judging panel of the U.K. version of the show. The 27-year-old had sat on the panel since 2008, when she replaced Sharon Osbourne.

Fellow Brit Simon Cowell was trying to help Cole up her fame in the U.S. with The X Factor, which he executive produces, but reports say he was ultimately on board with the decision to let her go.
