230pattinson041711_03_X17.jpgNow that Twilight is nearing an end, Robert Pattinson is free to peruse any movie project he wants -- but will he switch it up and go the musical theater route?

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is reportedly desperate to cast RPatz in the lead role in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical "American Idiot," which is based on the band's popular album.

Armstrong has been waiting for over two years for the world's sexiest vampire to have some free time, telling Spinner.com in an April 2009 interview:

    "I'm gonna say maybe that kid in 'Twilight,' [Pattinson]. He's a good actor. There's still more to come with that kid."


The film is set to be produced by Tom Hanks' Playtone and is currently in pre-production. No one has been cast as of yet, and Pattinson has remained mum on the potential new film role.
