Scarlett Johansson's sex appeal got in the way of landing the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Director David Fincher tells Vogue:

"We flew in people from New Zealand and Swaziland and all over the place. Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off."

Actress Rooney Mara, who graces the cover of Vogue, had previously worked with Fincher in The Social Network.

The Lisbeth Salander role was written as "a pale, anorexic young woman who had hair as short as a fuse, and a pierced nose and eyebrows." Yep ... not quite Scarlett.
