Russell has released a statement, stating:

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Rumors sparked when the couple were spotted spending the holidays apart -- sans wedding rings -- with Perry soaking up the sun in Kauai, Hawaii, while Brand was hitting up the pubs 7,000 miles away in London, before taking part in a friend's charity swim.

The couple have been adamantly denying any rumors of a split, with Brand recently appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to confess, "There are always rumors, aren't there? ... I've treated the whole Internet now like it's a wicked little liar. Yeah. I am really happily married. I'm married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge."

The Teenage Dream singer also backed up her hubby's claims, Tweeting in November: "First I'm pregnant & then I'm divorced. What am I 'All My Children'?! #ericakane #pshhh #ifihadadollarforeverytime."

Brand and Perry were said to have rented a lavish spread on the island of Kauai for a romantic NYE getaway, but after a massive fight, the pair cancelled plans to spend Christmas together in the native Brit's hometown of Cornwall, England, and have now officially decided to go their separate ways.

The Arthur star filed the docs in LA, citing "irreconcilable differences," according to TMZ, but no official date of separation was listed. The docs also state there are "community property assets" to divide up, meaning the couple may not have a prenup.

Brand and Perry tied the knot in a lavish 6-day ceremony in India on Oct. 23, 2010. Since the holidays, both stars have remained uncharacteristically mum on Twitter.
