Kanye West's Failed HBO Sitcom Pilot Leaked

Once again we have all been taught an important lesson: comedy's not for everyone. And it certainly ain't for Kanye West. Apparently the Yeezus singer filmed a sitcom pilot for HBO in 2008, which the network never picked up, and now some of the never-intended-for-human-consumption clips just got leaked! Don't get too excited -- it's all shades of unfunny. Weird, right? You'd really think someone who seems to have no sense of humor and takes himself insanely seriously would really shine in comedy.
The clips, leaked by Kanye's costar star Alison Quinn, begin with a handler (played by Alison) leading Kanye into a hospital room to visit an ailing boy for the Make-a-Wish foundation. Subsequently, Kanye and Alison have some non-hilarious misunderstandings, i.e. she thinks his name is pronounced "Kenny" and she mistakenly thinks he was on on the cover of Vibe magazine (when he was actually on the cover of Time). Oh the insanity! The clips are ripe with hack jokes, wooden "acting" and overused premises.
In a 2008 interview, the defunct sitcom's writer/producer Larry Charles said the show was Kanye’s version of critically lauded, much beloved Curbed with Enthusiasm, and then went on to detail a conversation between himself and Kanye: "What Kanye West said to me the first time, he said, 'I’m the black Larry David.'" Always so humble! But not so much, Yeezy. Not even close.
Umm yeah ... from what we've seen of Kanye's failed show it's clearly just way to "too hardcore" for HBO audiences, who chew on the gore-tastic Game of Thrones like candy. By "hardcore" we are just going to assume the director meant "unfunny." We gotta give kudos to HBO for not picking up this clunker.
After watching this dud, we think Kanye should probably stick to what he does best -- yelling at the paparazzi, making thinly veiled comparisons between himself and Jesus and spending a lot of money.
The clip has subsequently been taken down by HBO for a "copyright claim" -- and honestly we can't blame them.
