Miley Cyrus made Barbara Walter‘s Most Fascinating People of 2013 list, and though we already knew she opened up about her split from fiance Liam Hemsworth, she also chatted about how the media treats her and yup, her infamous tongue pose.

When asked about being labeled as "desperate" and "deeply troubled" Miley said:
“I know I’m not, so that’s why I just kind of laugh because I feel like the people who are saying that ... I don't know exactly who is saying that because I refuse to Google myself. The minute I stopped Googling myself, you don’t imagine what a happier person I am.”

Miley added that she will always be criticized no matter what she does. “I don’t always want to be naked,” she said. “No matter what I do, I’m either boring or I’m a sl*t.” And her mom Tish chimed in during the interview and said, “There are times, as a mom, I’m like, ‘What are you thinking?’ This is what 20-year-olds do. She’s just doing it in front of the world."

So what about sticking out her tongue?
“I get embarrassed to take pictures. That’s actually the truth. I’m so embarrassed, because people are taking pictures of me, and I just don’t know how to – I don’t know how to smile, and just be awkward, so I stick my tongue out, because I don’t know what else to do..."
