Jay Z launched a new music streaming service called Tidal, and even though we hadn't heard of it until just now, he had quite the star-studded turnout at the #TIDALforALL launch party last night in New York City!
Not only was Jay's wife Beyonce Knowles in almost every single photo from the event, but she hammed it up for the cameras when she posed with famous friends like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and yup, even Madonna! Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Jack White, Usher, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire and Deadmau5 were also in attendance, so it was a pretty eclectic mix of artists!
Keys sang her praises for the service and told the attendees, "So we come together before you on this day, March 30th, 2015, with one voice in unity in the hopes that today will be another one of those moments in time, a moment that will forever change the course of music history. For today we announce of Tidal, the first ever artist-owned, global music and entertainment platform."
Earlier this year Jay Z purchased the Swedish tech company Aspiro for $56 million and put them in charge of Tidal's logistics, and the members of Daft Punk were reportedly heavily involved in the marketing angle for the service. And in case you were wondering, the musicians involved do stand to make more of a profit from this streaming service than they would from Spotify, as there is no free tier. As if Jay and Bey needed to get any richer!
