Richard Gere, Anne Hathaway And More Celebs React To Famed Director Garry Marshall's Death

Iconic director Garry Marshall passed away on Tuesday, July 19, at age 81. HIs publicist Michelle Bega confirmed that the Pretty Woman director died from complications of pneumonia following a stroke at a hospital in Burbank, California. His famous sister, director Penny Marshall, also confirmed his death to CBS News.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara, and three children.
Garry, who made many onscreen cameos during his days, was most known for directing blockbuster comedies , Overboard, Runaway Bride and The Princess Diaries. He also created the legendary television show Happy Days and its spinoffs including Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy and Joanie Loves Chachi. His most recent film was Mother’s Day, which starred Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and was just released in April.
Richard Gere, who starred in both Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “Everyone loved Garry. He was a mentor and a cheerleader and one of the funniest men who ever lived. He had a heart of the purest gold and a soul full of mischief. He was Garry.â€
