He's realized the error of his ways.

John Mayer was the definition of a d**che bag just a few short years ago, and even he knows it! The singer opened up about his comeback and newfound maturity in a new interview with the New York Times, and he also chatted about his high profile relationship with ex Katy Perry.

“What has to happen for a guy to believe that he’s totally well-adjusted and be that far out of touch? My GPS was shattered, just shattered," he reflected while touching on those embarrassing quotes and interviews from Playboy and Rolling Stone, to name a few.

After disappearing from the spotlight for a few years to figure things out, he's ready to get back on scene.

"I’m a young guy. I like girls. I want girls to like me. I want to make music and be thought of as attractive. I was finally ready to reenter that world and grow back into it," he admitted.

His new song "Feel Like Your Man" is about the "Roar" songstress, but he thinks he's allowed to take creative liberties with his personal life.

“Who else would I be thinking about? And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people. There were times when tears came out of me, and I went, 'OK, John, this is not about an on-again, off-again relationship,' this is something more profound," he quipped.

The crooner confessed that he recently quit drinking and has been in therapy to work through his issues, and now sees a future with marriage and babies.

“I wish there was somebody to throw me the 40th. I want the baby with the protective earphones [by the side of the stage]," he mused.

He sounds like a new and improved man!
