Avicii, arguably the most famous DJ in the world, has died at the age of 28, TMZ reports. The performer was in Oman at the time of his death, but the details surrounding his passing are still unclear.

"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given," his rep confirmed in a statement.

The Swedish superstar had previously struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol, but it is not yet known if substances played a role in his tragic death.
